The Shenmue series is a Japanese multimedia series consisting of video games, a film (created from the first game's cutscenes, but released theatrically in Japan and on DVD worldwide), music, and comics.
Film
In addition, Shenmue: The Movie is a feature-length film that is comprised of cutscenes and gameplay footage of Shenmue. It was released in theaters in Japan on January 19, 2001. Because Shenmue wasn't released on Xbox, a DVD containing an English translation of Shenmue: The Movie was included with the Xbox version of Shenmue II.
Comics
Short manga comic strips were also created expanding on the story of the games. These were included as unlockable extras in the Xbox version of Shenmue and in the Shenmue I+II compilation.
Cancelled games
There was also a discontinued massively multiplayer online (MMO) game titled Shenmue City and a cancelled, never released, MMO titled Shenmue Online.
