The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition lacks a Blu-ray drive so games can only be purchased over the internet through digital distribution. It was released worldwide on November 19, 2020.
A Blu-ray drive add-on is not available so the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition can not be upgraded to the capabilities of the standard PlayStation 5.
PlayStation 5 (CFI-2000 model group – slim)
The slim PlayStation 5 of the CFI-2000 model group, like the original model can play media via a built-in Blu-ray drive or over the internet through digital distribution. It has a slightly smaller design, one terabyte of built-in storage, and additional USB ports. It was released on November 10, 2023.
