Alan Cox created the Adventure Graphic Operating System engine in 1989 while working at Horror Soft. It is a graphic adventure game engine based on AberMUD V.

In 1993, he created ScottFree, a script interpreter that runs Scott Adams interactive fiction games.

An engine based on the former was added to ScummVM on April 12, 2002. An engine based on the latter was added to ScummVM on December 9, 2018.
