Barack Hussein Obama II (born August 4, 1961) is a politician who served as the forty-fourth President of the United States from 2009 to 2017.
He was previously an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004 before becoming a United States senator representing Illinois from 2005 to 2008.
He was the first African-American President as well as the first President to have been born outside of the forty-eight contiguous states.
He was preceded as President by George W. Bush and was succeeded by Donald Trump.
