2020 campaign for President

Former Vice President Joe Biden announced his candidacy for election for President of the United States on April 25, 2019, with Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate.

In the November 3, 2020 election against President Donald Trump, Biden won the electoral college 306 to 232. He won the popular vote by 81,283,098 votes, or 51.3 percent of the votes cast. He was the first presidential candidate in the United States to have won more than 80 million votes.

2024 campaign for President, and suspending of campaign

President Joe Biden announced his candidacy for re-election for President of the United States on April 25, 2023, with Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate.

Several times during the first debate against former President Donald Trump on June 27, 2024, President Biden paused, misspoke, and spoke with a soft, raspy voice. Largely because of the debate, and due to concerns over Biden's age, Trump's lead in polls of likely voters grew against Biden. Following the polling, several members of Biden's Democratic party urged Biden to suspend his re-election campaign.

President Joe Biden officially ended his re-election campaign on July 21, 2024 and threw his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris became the official nominee for President of the United States on August 19, 2024. This made her the first black and the first West Asian American woman to be nominated for President by a major party in the United States.
