The Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union (Академия наук Советского Союза) was the highest scientific institution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
It was formed in 1925 and lasted until the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991.

Under the AcademySoft label, Alexey Pajitnov developed Tetris on an Elektronika 60 computer while employed as a computer engineer at the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union on June 6, 1984.
Tetris was ported to DOS by Vadim Gerasimov, then a high school student, in 1984.
It was then expanded by Gerasimov, Pajitnov, and Dmitry Pavlovsky, a computer engineer at the Academy, from 1984 to 1986.
