Broken Age was a point-and-click adventure game by Double Fine Productions.
Story
A boy and a girl live parallel lives. The girl has been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to a terrible monster, but she decides to fight back. Meanwhile, a boy on a spaceship is living a solitary life under the care of a motherly computer, but he wants to break free to lead adventures and do good in the world.
Development
Broken Age is a game that started as a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for fans to fund a point-and-click adventure with a team led by Tim Schafer, and including input by Ron Gilbert in the planning stages, under the working title of Double Fine Adventure. The working title was later used for the documentary series by 2-Player Productions which was also funded by the crowdfunding campaign.
Release
Broken Age was first released for Linux, macOS, and Windows on Steam and in a DRM-free version on GOG.com. The game also was released for iOS and for some Android devices such as Ouya, as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch.
It was originally scheduled to be released in October 2012, but the budget is larger than originally expected so the team moved the release date back, first to September 2013, and then to early 2014 to take the time needed to make the game with higher quality assets than originally planned.
The game was first released in two parts through Steam Early Access and episodically through GOG.com. It was then released as one full game for the full release. The first part was released on January 28, 2014. The final part was released on April 28, 2015.
A Nintendo Switch port of the entire game was released on September 13, 2018.
